Who We Are:

First Presbyterian Church in Tullahoma is home to the Presbyterian Youth Connection (PYC)

for 6th - 8th grade and 9th - 12th grade youth programs.

During the school year, weekly Wednesday night meetings are held in the church youth apartment. Our night consists of fellowship, skits/games, student testimonies, and challenging messages from God's Word.  Dinner is provided for PYC (1) 6th -8th graders, though we do go out to eat the third Wednesday of each month. For PYC (2) 9th-12th graders, youth travel in private vehicles or the church van to a local restaurant (fast food) for a quick dinner each week. PYC will always help anyone who needs assistance with dinner costs. Dinner plans may be subject to change depending on the calendar and needs of the group; however, we will communicate changes with youth and our families.

Montreat Youth Conferences (MYC) equip and empower youth to make tangible changes within themselves and the greater community by hearing their peers' voices and using their own. Youth are encouraged to be their authentic selves, to form deep, spiritual, and intentional relationships with God, themselves, and others, in order to grant assurance of wholeness. MYC provide an affirming atmosphere for youth to embrace the unknown and to ask questions that lead to exploration as a means of faith development.

MYC is designed for high school students, rising freshmen through graduated seniors, and for their group leaders. There are six conference weeks each summer. There are four main parts of every day at MYC:

  • Keynote – The keynote session gathers everyone together for movement and group building (fondly known as energizers), announcements, music, and keynote. Keynote is a 45 minute presentation engaging conferees in that day’s scriptural theme. After keynote, conferees head to small group sessions.

  • Small Groups – Small groups allow youth to form relationships with others in order to have honest discussions with each other about questions raised during keynote and worship. Small group sessions are led by trained small group leaders, who guide conversation and lead group building activities.

  • Worship – After dinner, everyone gathers for worship. In worship, youth engage the Word of God as they seek to understand and respond to the challenges and triumphs of being a high schooler in the twenty-first century. Youth Conference worship is joyful, reflective, and seeks to glorify God using many creative gifts of the participants.

  • Recreation – Recreation events are featured throughout the day and include everything from dance, games, and group building activities to snow cone parties, international crafts, and service. Energizers are a much beloved Montreat tradition, pairing popular music and simple movements everyone can enjoy.

Housing and Meals - FPC Tullahoma has stayed in both private housing and Montreat housing, depending on availability and the size of our group. When we stay in a private house, we will eat most of our meals there. The chaperones will prepare the meals (with assistance from the youth). Staying in a private house allows our group a chance to bond as a community and a place to relax.

For those in need, there are limited scholarship funds to help with the costs.
